Feeding the Roots of Self Expression

 Our mission is to empower incarcerated individuals and those in reentry programs through the transformative power of writing. Using Jimmy Santiago Baca's writings from his time in prison, we provide a structured workbook, facilitator guide, and participant guide to help participants confront dehumanization, reclaim their voice, and rediscover their humanity. 

Many programs focus solely on job training, missing critical emotional and psychological rehabilitation that can reduce recidivism. Our program helps participants develop communication skills, process trauma, and build self-confidence while providing an outlet for self-expression and teaching transferable skills such as storytelling, literacy, and critical thinking.
